What is an A.C.T.S. Retreat?
An ACTS retreat weekend is a three-day, three-night Catholic lay retreat presented by fellow parishioners like yourself. The weekend begins Thursday evening, around 6:00 PM and ends with Mass at St. James Church a 11:30 AM on Sunday. Transportation provided to and from the Retreat Center. This weekend is filled with lots of reflection time. Singing, praising and sharing all with the blessings of our Lord! There are angels to serve your needs, speakers to share the Word and singing to uplift your souls.
The purpose of an ACTS weekend is to provide an opportunity for retreatants to develop a deeper relationship with the Lord and fellow parishioners through Adoration and daily prayer; through Community in one's parish as a member of the Body of Christ; through Theology or the teachings of our Catholic faith by encouraging more study; and, to instill a virtue of Service to our Lord, our parish and each other.
MESSAGE OF ACTS
A.C.T.S. is an acronym for Adoration, Community, Theology and Service and it is these four themes that are the focus of the activities of the weekend.
ACTS is inspired by the ACTS of the Apostles 2:42-47: "They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of bread and to prayers. Awe came upon everyone and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common: they would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one's need. Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread their homes. They ate their meals in exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And, every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved."
An ACTS retreat strives to achieve the directives of Vatican II and the goals of the Revised Code of Canon Law of 1983 to place more emphasis on "Community and Pastoral Care" within a parish; that the participants experience God's love and joy throughout the weekend, and return to their parishes with a deeper love for each other and a desire to become more involved in the parish faith community. Please note that all denominations are welcomed.
A Parish Weekend Retreat patterned after the description of the early Church in the Acts of the Apostles breaking bread together, worshiping together, receiving instruction together, sharing in common, and reaching out in loving service. (ACTS 2:42-47)
